2011 Suncoast Volleyball Club Tryout

Suncoast Volleyball Club is a place where young athletes can develop their volleyball skills in a safe, fun, and educationally sound environment. Suncoast Volleyball is a club where coaches and parents work together to build both the athletes volleyball skills as well as their life skills. We attempt to make success possible and strive to ensure players grow as a person as well as an athlete. Players as well as staff are expected to work hard, play hard and have fun!

We believe success is not relative to wins or losses! We feel every win and loss is a learning experience for athletes, coaches and parents. While winning is not the most important thing, the will to win is!

At Suncoast, we expect everyone to have a positive experience including athletes, parents, and coaches. When a disagreement occurs, it is expected that everyone- athlete, parent, and coach, will handle the situation in a corrective manner, not a negative manner.

During try-outs we observe all players and place the athletes where we feel they can achieve the most success and where they would best fit into our program. This year’s try-outs will take place November 7th for the youth group and November 21 for the high school group.

Once teams have been determined, we schedule three to four 90-180 minute practice sessions in November and December before taking the holidays off. After the New Year, Suncoast practices one weekend day and one - week night for 90-180 minutes. The time frame is dependant on gym time availability. In February, once the tournament season has begun, we will hold 2 to 3 week night practices for 90-120 minutes each. Due to the limited gym availability, we cannot have a set schedule for practices.

Our National teams travel to Orlando, Clearwater, Tampa, and travel outside the state for National Qualifying Events. In addition, teams may participate in local tournament in Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice. Our regional teams follow a similar schedule but do not travel outside of Florida for National Qualifying events. Our Local teams participate in tournaments in Clearwater, Tampa, and the Sarasota Bradenton area.

A hotel stay is not required for tournaments in Clearwater, Tampa, or the Sarasota/Bradenton area. However, for tournaments further than 90 minutes away, a hotel stay is required. Athletes stay with their parent or designated guardian and are responsible for payment of the room, travel, and food costs. Suncoast books hotel rooms for the athletes and parents. The average price per room is $99-$139. Parents must provide their own transportation to and from tournaments and hotels. Athletes stay with their parents or a guardian during sleep over tournaments.

The Suncoast Volleyball Coaching staff consists of high school coaches, middle school coaches, teachers, and adult past players. All coaches’ are USAV Impact Certified and most have completed the USA Volleyball Coaches Accreditation Program. In addition, all coaches have completed background checks through USA Volleyball.
